R Hollenshead Auto has over 100 loyal employees.  Through the decades we pride ourselves in experiencing almost no "turn-over".  Ten families have more then one person that work here, some have three.  Many have had personal problems that in any other work place would result in termination...not here.  We invest in the individual and understand we all hit the pavement on occasions  ("there but by the grace of God go I" is Robert's montra).  Tuitions are paid by us. Robert M. Hollenshead, Founder, the Company’s Heart

 

 Robert started his wholesale operation in 1972 in Philadelphia, Pa.  He is the largest independent wholesale car dealer in history, with annual revenues approaching $300,000,000.00.  He has profound knowledge of the psychology of both sides of the business, wholesale and retail.  Having spent the past decades buying (off the street), selling by hand and obviously in the auction lane, reconditioning, transporting, importing, exporting to five continents(before it was cool), and thinking.  The thinking has led to many inovations for the industry.  A few of which are the first Dealer Trade lanes before they were dealer trade lanes, the first Exotic Sales in the country, Wreck Check before CarFax, Bid the Load, Buyfigure, which was the blue print used, as documented, in the Veritec patent, and BuyBook Technologies. The latter will fundamentally change the way we value, trade and liquidate automobiles. The theory used in the BuyBook process was developed a decade before any of the internet initiatives that are in use today.   It all started while Robert was in the process of buying an auction from his mentor and theoretical partner, Al Balis.  Al has since passed on to a different world and met our creator.  There is no doubt that he is buying and selling something in the ever after.  We don'r believe that they  drive there, so it's not cars, but for sure it is something.  Robert is the designer and custodian of Soledad Gardens www.soledadmansion.org.  Formal gardening,  painting in the soial realist form,  sculpture, and pre-colonial cultures of South America are his passions. He uses  the shovel,  brush, and canvas  to reveal his soul to anyone inclined to have a look. 

Robert is a Marine Corps vet, and a graduate of Penn State University with a degree in Marxist/ Leninist economics.

MaryAnn Holden , Controller, Partner, the Company’s Soul

 

 

 MaryAnn became a partner in 2003 and has been with Hollenshead since 1989.   For more then two decades, MaryAnn has been responsible for overseeing all admin functions.  She was the only girl in a family with five brothers which honed her skills to be prepared for the Hollenshead wholesale world.   She started in the auction business as a teenager at Hatfield Auto Auction in 1980.  "Mare" is responsible for controlling the Hollenshead whirlwind and all of the office employees, buyers, and vendors.   From employees to customers alike, MaryAnn is universally admired for her fairness and cool under fire…and there is fire.  She is the definition of a company's right hand.  Mare is an avid gardener and the unofficial Mayor of Skippack Pa.

 Born into the business in 1972, (when he gets cut he bleeds oil) Travis was a graduate of the Hill School and received a baseball scholarship to Pitt. Against the advice of his father he decided to leave University to join the family business (he was smitten by the wholesale bug long before school so it wasn’t his fault…kind of like malaria, once you have it you can’t get rid of it).  He is a lead analyst with BuyBook Tech and heir to the throne.  Travis is an amateur comedian and a professional handicapper.  Todd is responsible for the daily operation of the internet division of the company. With over 15 years in the automotive industry, Todd has held virtually every position in the business. Since joining Hollenshead Auto Sales, Todd has been instrumental in the development and launch of the revolutionary Trade in Marketplace program, which is currently available on AutoTrader.com. Todd is also an integral part of the marketing and advertising of R M Hollenshead Auto Sales.

With over 30 years in the automotive industry, Aside from years in major dealerships and working the street, Ted is an unrecognized pioneer in the on-line auto valuation world. He co-founded Green Light technologies in 2000 and patented the process years before any of the recent visionaries claim to do so. Google has nothing on Ted when it comes to automotive knowledge. In the office we have an inside joke about him.  He knows more about cars, new and antique, than anyone cares to know…until you need the information.  Google has nothing on Ted, and that is no joke. An officianado on domestics and exotics alike Ted has owned some of those units you watch get sold on Barret Jackson.  And much to his dismay, many have sold for double digit multiples than what he owned them for decades earlier.  Ted is a partner and our head analyst at BuyBook Tech which powers AutoTrader’s Trade in Marketplace.  If you ever need to figure out the correct engine block or color on a 1954 Porsche Speedster, give Ted a call. Ted is a key member of the development team on new products. Ted’s hobbies include wood working and reciting, verbatim, articles from Car and Driver from the 1960’s.  No need to question his knowledge on cars.  He also has two sons that are valued employees of the Hollenshead family, Patrick and Charles.

Florence Kline, Office Manager, the Company's moral stability

 

 

 Since 1994, solid as a rock, Florence "Flo" Kline has been like a family member at Hollenshead Auto.  Prior to coming with us she worked for a decade at Manheim Auto Auction before it was corporate as the registration person.  When you call for a number in the old building, you were talking to Flo.   As office manager at Hollenshead, Flo is responsible for overseeing her office staff of eight girls and does a great job of managing the personalities. She also acts as liaison to the auction. If you've seen Bob on the block with his "scroll" of inventory, you've seen just one of many of Flo's talents. From payroll to sale-day preparation, you can be sure that Flo has something to do with it. In addition to being a valued member of our team, Flo and her family have operated a preserved farm in Lititz for over 100 years, and was recently awarded a Century Farm Award for retaining the farm in their family for the entire time.  Florence has been with us for decades and never missed one day for being sick.  If you ever need to go to war, bring Florence because you will never have to worry that she would break and run.  Flo is in for the duration.

 

Hector Mendoza, Director of Auction Operations & Vehicle Transport, the Company's wheels

 

Hector joined the Hollenshead team over 25 years ago. He was born and educated in Lima, Peru.  Hector came to the US at the peak of activity of the Shining Path or Sendero Luminoso, which has conditioned him to withstand the intensity and unrealistic demands of Robert Hollenshead. On any given day, Hector is responsible for thirty drivers, car carriers, rollback trucks, and 700 vehicles. On sale day, you'll find Hector on the auction block next to Robert, making sure that all cars are accounted for, and looking the best they will look for the rest of their existence.  Hector’s wife, Rosanna, is also employed at Hollenshead.

 

 

 

Donovan Carpenter, Recon Manager, the Company's dents

 

Since joining the team 20 years ago, Donovan has worked his way up through the ranks to become the leader of the single busiest independent recon shop in North America.  The first man in, and last man out, Donovan has established a reputation within the company as the go-to guy when something needs to get done.  His wife Lori and son Casey are both employees at Hollenshead.  Donny is a certified paintless dent removal expert and world class recon man.  He builds race cars and looses all his money on them, but they are the shiniest ones on the track.

 

 

Michael McCormick, General Manager, Remarketing, the Company's bid 

 

 Michael brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our group. Mike is an Army vet and also worked in the retail sector for over ten years.  He then became director of wholesale operations of the Piazza Group, a large multi-franchise dealer in the Philadelphia area.  When Michael joined Hollenshead he used the analogy "it was like getting off a tricycle and getting on a 1000 horsepower crotch rocket. Make no mistake, you don’t quit with sore hands when you are at Hollenshead." To date, Michael has over 200,000 wholesale transactions under his belt, and like the rest of the team, is focused on a common goal: To deliver the ultimate customer experience. Michael views situations as never having problems, only solutions.

Matt Knox, Lead Technology Developer, the Company's computor

 

Matt has written all code used in the BuyBookTech project.  He is responsible for managing his seven person tech team he has assembled. Matt has designed and written every line of code that will soon revamp how cars are bought and sold at the wholesale level.   Matt is a body builder and is expecting his first child soon.  We expect he will call the child TIM to stand for Trade In Marketplace, if it is a boy or girl (and I ain’t joking).

Brad joined Hollenshead in 2006. He came to us with experience in the retail sector and BDC department . He is our customer relations face and our connection to the sales team at AutoTrader. Brad has really made super progress and has become a real asset to our project.  He is the man behind our 800 number when a dealer needs help in the TIM process.  Known as "La Diva", Claudia has been a member of the Hollenshead family for the past 11 years.  Much to the dismay of many she got married this year to a very lucky man.  Claudia was born in the Dominican Republic and came to the US as a youngster.  We were fortunate to employee her while she was in !0th grade.  She is a graduate of Alvernia College. Well versed in basically all aspects of the office functions. If you don't see Claudia in the office, you'll probably be able to hear her on WLCH 91.3 FM in Lancaster as the host of the evening music program. Tune in, she's amazing! We are grooming her for big things…and she is ready.

Rosanna is the better half of Hector Mendoza, and is a big part of the daily activities in the office. From vendors, to vehicles, and everything in between, Rosanna knows what's going on with it all. Rosanna is also an integral part of our HR team, working with the employees to accommodate their needs.  She has three great daughters all getting ready for college so we know she and Hector are not going anywhere.

Responsible for day to day operations in the recon shop, as well as sale-day logistics, Angel has been a tremendous asset for the last 17 years. Acting as liaison between the recon shop, and the auction lanes, Angel is a key factor in the success of each and every sale.  Angel is as solid as a rock.

 Sandy is second generation wholesale and has been on the street for 40 years buying and selling.  Few people have his talent, intuition for a car, and experience. His Grandfather was a Nazi Holacaust survivor.  We are proud to have him in our family. He has been an integral part of our vehicle aquisition team for the last 12 years. Sandy is also our resident boat and watercraft expert, allowing us to help our dealers make a deal regardless of what the customer is trading. He got left "out of jail" by Robert Hollenshead eight  years ago and is now an analyst for BuyBook and a buyer for Hollenshead.
